The approaching year 2025 is the final chapter for the Audi A4 in North American markets, but the story is not over yet. After Audi decided to merge the gasoline-powered A4 with the A5 car category as part of its previous plan to name electric cars with even numbers, the German company returned today to officially confirm: The A4 name will return again, but this time with a completely different identity.
The electric Audi A4 is under development

Audi CEO, Gernot Döllner, confirmed that the German company is currently working on developing a fully electric Audi A4, describing the project as part of “the largest transformation in Audi’s history.” Although precise technical details have not been revealed yet, the features of the future are beginning to become clear.
The new car will be based on the Volkswagen Group’s Scalable Systems Platform (SSP), an advanced platform primarily intended for 800-volt electric vehicles, with the potential to support combustion engines used as range generators in the future.
However, due to programming challenges, the launch of this platform was delayed, and it is expected that the first cars based on it will arrive in late 2027, to be followed by other new cars during the year 2028, God willing.

The name remains, but with a new philosophy
After reversing the previous naming policy, Audi decided to return to its traditional approach of naming models according to their position in the category, with the addition of a suffix that clarifies the type of drive system:
- e-tron electric cars
- TFSI for gasoline engines
- TFSIe for plug-in hybrids
- TDI for diesel engines
Thus, the car will bear the name Audi A4 e-tron or something similar at launch.
Future-inspired design
External appearance

The new design of the upcoming Audi A4 will directly benefit from the design language that first appeared in Audi Concept C (Audi Concept C), where we expect:
- Sharp lines and clear angles
- A bolder vertical front end
- Slimmer headlights
- Smaller grille with larger lower openings
- Slim taillights extending transversely
Interior

As for the cabin, although the Audi Concept C offered a very simple interior design, Audi will not go to this extreme in the production version, while maintaining the balance between luxury, technology and ease of use.
Expected performance and payment system
Although the numbers have not been officially confirmed, expectations indicate that this upcoming car will combine the work of two electric motors (all-wheel drive AWD) with a power ranging between 400 to 500 horsepower, and a sports version may be available with a power that may approach 700 horsepower.
Audi will provide batteries of different sizes in this car, supporting fast charging, with the possibility of supporting the Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) feature.
When will we see it on the roads?
- Official reveal: 2027 (most likely)
- Access to global markets: 2028
- Arrival in North America: late 2028 or 2029
Expected price
According to the prices of potential competitors from BMW and Mercedes, the price of the upcoming Audi A4 electric car is expected to start between 55,000 and 65,000 US dollars.
Equivalent to approximately 206,000 to 244,000 Saudi riyals.
Conclusion
The return of the Audi A4 name is not just a revival of an old model, but rather a strategic step to redefine Audi’s identity in the era of electric cars. If Audi succeeds in achieving a balance between performance, luxury, and price, the A4 may once again be one of the pillars of the luxury middle class, but with a silent electric sound this time.
