Limited-production cars from brands such as Ferrari, Porsche and Lamborghini are usually a profitable investment, as their value increases as soon as they reach the auction market, if they reach it at all. But what happened with one of the few copies produced, the Bentley Bacalar, turned all expectations upside down.

This is amazing Super luxury car Which Musab Shashaa introduced to you closely more than 5 years ago when it was launched at a price of approximately 2 million US dollars, or the equivalent of 7.5 million Saudi riyals, it suffered a shocking loss when it was sold at a public auction for less than half its original value, despite its extreme rarity and almost new condition.

A huge loss suffered by the luxury Bentley Bacalar

It was sold at an Abu Dhabi auction and the result was shocking

During the Formula 1 race weekend in Abu Dhabi, RM Sotheby’s organized one of its most distinguished auctions, and among the cars on offer was a 2021 Bentley Bacalar with a mileage of only 1,131 kilometers (703 miles).

The car, the fifth of only 12 copies produced globally, came from a private collection in Monaco, and was expected to ignite the enthusiasm of wealthy car collectors. But the surprise was that the auction hammer stopped at a price of 876,785 US dollars, equivalent to approximately 3,288,000 Saudi riyals! The rare British car lost more than 1.1 million US dollars, equivalent to about 4,125,000 Saudi riyals, of its original price of 2 million US dollars, or the equivalent of 7.5 million Saudi riyals.

Luxurious design, but is it enough?

The car that was sold at the auction is considered one of the most beautiful copies of the limited-production Bentley Bacalar cars that have appeared to date, with an attractive exterior color called Memphis Red, with 22-inch wheels with a three-spoke design, making it look ideal for roaming on the beaches of the French Riviera or the streets of Monaco.

As for the cabin, it is a masterpiece in itself, with light Linen leather with dark burgundy accents, satin nickel accents and luxurious Vavona wood, reflecting the utmost levels of craftsmanship provided by Bentley Mulliner.

Mechanical specifications

This car is mechanically based on a 6-liter W12 engine with a twin turbo with a power of 655 horsepower and 900 Nm of torque, connected to an 8-speed automatic transmission.

Why were the collectors not convinced?

One possible explanation is that the great similarity between the Bentley Bacalar and the Bentley Continental GTC played a negative role, while the Bentley Continental GTC – the open-top version of the Bentley Continental GT – can be purchased with luxury specifications for about 300,000 US dollars, equivalent to approximately 1,125,000 Saudi riyals.

It was difficult for many collectors to justify paying more than six times that amount for Bacalar, despite its rarity.

Conclusion

The Bentley Bacalar remains an exceptional car in terms of design and exclusivity, but so far it has not convinced the auction market that it is a guaranteed investment. This may change in the future, but at the present time, it seems that this British masterpiece has not yet found its audience, contrary to what Bentley had hoped.
