New Hyundai cars are on the horizon. The Korean manufacturer is not content with competing anymore, but is preparing to break into categories that have long been the exclusive domain of giants such as Toyota and Honda. From a pickup truck that competes with the Toyota Tacoma, to an SUV that challenges the Toyota 4Runner, to huge partnerships and bold American production plans, Hyundai is charting a new phase that may completely rearrange the North American car market.

Hyundai is not satisfied with what it has achieved so far in the American market. After recording three consecutive years of record sales numbers and ranking sixth among the best-selling car companies in the United States of America – the second largest car market in the world after the Chinese market – CEO Jose Munoz confirms that the ambition is much greater.

New goal?

A huge jump in sales of new Hyundai cars, reaching 1.44 million cars in North America by 2030, God willing, that is, an increase of approximately 73% compared to current numbers, in a plan described as one of the most daring in the history of the Korean brand.

The first pillar: local manufacturing at an unprecedented rate

Hyundai’s plan depends mainly on localization in America – to comply with the American laws imposed by Trump on imports from abroad – as the company seeks to:

  • 80% of its cars are manufactured in the United States of America
  • Supplying 80% of the components from the American local market

To achieve this, Hyundai is accelerating the pace of work at its giant Metaplant factory in the US state of Georgia, with the addition of a second expansion phase that will increase production capacity by 200,000 new cars annually starting in 2028, allowing the production of up to 10 hybrid and electric models in the same factory, God willing.

The Alabama plant will also receive an additional boost of investments to increase production.
